When you lose your job
4 things to consider when you lose your job
There are so many emotions and things going on when you lose your job. It may take time to process.
There are multiple things to remember and here are four things to consider:
Asking for references and recommendations. Are there people that you can go that you can ask for a reference? Are there things that you’re looking to highlight or skill sets that you want to highlight? If so, be clear to see if these points can be included into your reference/recommendation. See if you can get written recommendations.
Feedback - This may not be something that you will receive when you get let go. See if your hiring manager/team is willing/open to give you feedback to improve for the future.
Checking your vesting options. If you have stock options, check the details for your options.
Check to see if you can be re-hired in the future. See if you can ask whether you can be re-hired, perhaps on a different team or on a different project. Check to see what options are available and what resources are available for those who have lost their job. Would your employer be open to supporting you via coaching resources?
